A Napoleon III gilt and patinated bronze and rouge griotte marble striking mantel clock, third quarter 19th century
The case modelled with an amorino and a cherub, the latter formerly holding an open book, resting on a naturalistic ground cast with grapes, vine leaves, a tambourine and a ewer, on rectangular rouge griotte plinth, raised on front feet cast with grapes and bacchic masks, with conforming bezel to the engine-turned gilt Roman dial, blued steel moon hands, the twin barrel movement with silk suspension and countwheel strike on bell; re-gilt -- 19¾in. (50cm.) high
