Two typescript letters and two sets of typescript lyrics for previously unpublished songs, circa 1930s, the letters addressed to a close friend Peila, one with typescript signature, written in rhyme, 30th September, 1933, beginning:
Dear Peala! [sic] I am so sorry not to have written to you sooner but I have not been able to steal a Moment to tell you what a good time I have had staying in your magnificent country mansion Oh stellar stepdaughter of the Honourable Alfy Ansion [sic]... complaining about the quantity of music he's being made to write and adding ..In the meantime I think of you often, dear Peala. Please continue to have Helen of Troy's beauty, Circe's sublte charm, Salome's sex appeal and Madame Bovary's Ovaries Love from the bottom of my soul Coul.. 1p. - The other typescript letter addressed to Peila-Peila, June 20th [1930s], full of affection for the addressee and of society gossip: ...Linda is busted but well, all the servants are dying...I've written a new song about George Sand that will disgust you, we go to the Hutton wedding tomorrow if I can find my pants, Betty Shevlin-Smith and Fulco are that way about each other, Elsa arrives on Friday, Natasha is doing a film, all the Groupe were at 'Mahogonny' last night, going mad with admiration, Tillie's ballet 'Errante' is the loveliest thing I've seen in years, the others are dull and horribly danced... we have a new butler that looks like a very old bird... signed in pencil Cole 1p.
