2° (353 x 257mm.), text in English and French, 41 hand-coloured aquatint plates by George Walker (occasional light spotting generally not affecting plates, hinges cracked), contemporary half green calf, upper cover and spine with label (rubbed and scuffed).
FIRST EDITION. Abbey Life 432: "PLate 3 is of particular interest in being the first representative of a steam-engine on rails; built by Murray & Blenkinsop, Leeds, in 1812, about two years before Stephenson's engine, it was used from 1812 until 1833"; Brunet II, 325; Colas 3044.
