Livraisons 52-78 only (of 102) bound in 4 volumes, 2° (532 x 354mm.). letterpress text (but without titles, half-titles or any preliminary text or indices), 283 (of 600) hand-coloured engraved plates after Nicholas Huet fils and Jean Gabriel Prêtre (light old dampstaining to the vols. III and IV, occasional light browning, offsetting and spotting, some plates misbound), later roan-backed boards, spines in six compartments with raised bands, dark red leather lettering-pieces in the second and fourth (extremities a little rubbed and scuffed, slightly affected by damp).
A selection from the large paper issue of "un des livres les plus beaux et des plus importants que l'on ait sur l'ornithologie" (Brunet). "This fine treatise, with its remarkable coloured plates, was intended as a supplement to Buffon's Planches enluminées" (Wood), and describes many new species. The nomenclature was provided by Temminck, while Laugier de Chartrouse provided the greater part of the specimens from his collection.
