Captain Eric Swinton Dufton, M.C., first entered the French Theatre of War in late January 1915 as a Private with the 10th Battalion, Liverpool Regiment but was invalided home just over a month later after sustaining a gunshot wound to his right arm in operations near Kemmel. Commissioned into the Gordon Highlanders in September 1915, he afterwards transferred to the Camerons, with whom he won his M.C. and Bar.
