Gothic type 2:102. 57 lines, double column. 6- and 9-line woodcut Maiblumen initials filled in or high-lighted in red, other initials rubricated in red, paragraph strokes, capital strokes in red. (Lacking 10 printed leaves, wormed throughout affecting letters, heaviest at end, final text leaf lined on verso.) Modern half calf. Provenance: some early marginalia -- Estelle Doheny (morocco bookplate; purchased from Dawson's Bookshop, Los Angeles, 1 August 1941) -- donated to SMS 29 August 1941.

FIRST EDITION. Although undated, the paper stocks found in this edition are found in other datable Strassburg incunables from around 1476. The woodcut initials, only recorded in this edition, are among the earliest used in Strassburg. Compositor's errors resulted in a dropped line of text on 6/2r (here supplied in contemporary manuscript); blank col. b and short col. a on 14/5v. VERY RARE: only two copies recorded in American libraries according to ISTC.
