The playing surface with rosewood and sycamore squares surrounded by parquetry strung borders and a raised edge (elements lacking) -- 16 3/8in. (41.6cm.) square; and an oak and rosewood veneered chess board, first half 19th century, also with parquetry border -- 17¼in. (43.7cm.) square
