Circa 1740-50
Enamelled in an oval cartouche with two men sawing planks of wood raised on trestle tables, two female companions seated under a tree to their side, below a narrow gilt and sepia scrolling foliage band at the rim

Lot Essay

This scene is after an engraving by S. Le Clerc of circa 1685. A saucer with the same central scene is illustrated Hervouët and Bruneau, La Porcelaine des Compagnies des Indes à Décor Occidental, Paris, 1986, p.352, fig.15.38.
