A SWISS GOLD AND ENAMEL SNUFF-BOX
Geneva, circa 1780/1800, with prestige marks including one resembling the charge marks of Julien Alaterre, struck with the Prague tax mark for 1806/1807
Oval box, the cover, sides and base with panels engine-turned with horizontal bands of scalloped reeding alternating with bands of horizontal reeding, framed by white enamelled bands, the lid centred by an oval enamel plaque depicting two children playing at being Rinaldo and Armida watched by two warriors in a landscape with fountain, within a matted gold frame enamelled with translucent green leaves and blue flowerheads alternating with white enamel stripes with gold circles en taille d'épargne, the borders similarly adorned, the four side pilasters enamelled in translucent red and green and in opaque blue with flower vases on a matted ground
