Flattened étui of oval section with convex ends, each side decorated with sepia medallions on an oxblood brown ground with classical figures and lions' heads within translucent green and opaque white borders, the textured ground with floral rosettes and banding in translucent blue and opaque white

Lot Essay

This grisaille on a brown ground enamel decoration enjoyed great popularity in late 18th century London and is associated with enamellists such as James Morisset, Louis and Simon Augustin Toussaint, William Charron and, probably, Gabriel Wirgman.
