Paris, 1763/1764, with the charge and discharge marks of Jean-Jacques Prevost 1762-1768, maker's mark badly struck but with a 'G' as the last of three letters, later struck with two Parisian post-1838 restricted warranty marks for gold
Rectangular book cover, the engraved spine with front and rear hinges, front and rear sides set with red lacquer panels within pierced stylised gold mounts, the obverse and reverse applied with oval central panels of Japan-style gold painted flowers on black lacquer within bright-cut and pierced stylised gold mounts, a gold pencil-holder engraved with vertical reeding containing an exchangeable pencil inserted in the gold clasp rings at front and rear sides to lock the book, the interior lined with blue silk containing a green silk lined notebook
