A SAXON TWO-COLOUR GOLD CAGEWORK AND HARDSTONE SNUFF-BOX
Dresden, circa 1750
Rectangular semi-translucent amethystine-quartz snuff-box with slight baluster sides, within wavy red gold mounts with incorporated raised thumbpiece, the slightly raised lid overlaid with a cagework of a scène champêtre chased, embossed and pierced in yellow gold, depicting a curious shepherd unwrapping a scarf from the breast of sleeping shepherdess, within a plethora of rococo scrolls, swags, trelliswork and rippling frills, the mauve base engraved with a diaper pattern carved at the intersections with quatrefoils, wavy flange
