A mahogany quarter-chiming longcase clock
The hood with flowerhead carved caps to the swan-neck cresting, with blind fret panels to the frieze below, outset front-fluted columns, with blind fret band below the throat, wavy arch trunk door flanked by fluted three-quarter pilasters, the plinth with raised panel and canted angles and on bracket feet, the 12in. cut-away wide brass dial with scroll spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with dot minute track, with chime/silent and eight bells/four bells selection levers at the quarters, the matted centre with engraved scrolls and subsidiary silvered seconds ring and box date aperture, the arch with painted rolling moon and signed on a silvered band above JOHN WYKE LIVERPOOL, the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on gong, with quarter chimes on eight nested bells via a pinned barrel; composite, case, dial and movement associated, case and dial circa 1780, dial adapted, movement second half 19th century -- 91½in. (232.5cm.) high
