A Queen Anne month-going arabesque marquetry longcase clock, circa 1705
The formerly rising hood with later stepped top and fretwork cornice panel, glazed side panels, with inset ebonised front columns and marquetry around the door frame, the front of the case decorated with intricate arabesque marquetry inhabited by birds, with ebonised moulded frame to a trunk door with glazed lenticle, the stepped plinth half replaced, the 12in. square brass dial with cherub mask and foliate spandrels with foliate scroll engraving to the borders between, with punched signature WILLIAM WEST LONDON to the lower edge, silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring with fleur-de-lys half hour and cross half quarter hour markers, the matted centre with silvered subsidiary seconds ring, date box and ringed winding holes, with flowerhead engraving to the centre, blued steel hands, the six pillar month-going movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 90½in. (230cm.) high
