Dirk van der Goorbergh may be reckoned among the most important silversmiths who produced rococo silver in Delft. He was clearly influenced by the designs of his contemporaries in The Hague. In the present case van der Goorbergh was greatly indebted to the specialised maker of wall-sconces Jan Willem Burger for the overall design but applied his own touches resulting in the characteristic jagged outline (see the catalogue of exhibition, op. cit.).
