The inscription reads:

The inscription is a shortened version of Chronicles 9, verse 21. The engraving uses images to depict the ships, sun, moon, animals and birds which appear in the full text in the Bible.
The latter translates into English as:
For the king's ships went to Tarsis with the servants of Huram: every three years once came the ships of Tarsis bringing gold, and silver, ivory and apes and peacocks.
