Maker's mark probably that of Daniel Housel I, Amsterdam, 1759 or 1784, also struck with later Dutch duty mark of 1853-1927, the mother-of-pearl signed IB for I. Barckhuysen
Oblong with canted corners, the hinged mother-of-pearl cover carved with an allegorical garden scene of Love and Cupid with a clock in his hand, and engraved IB FECIT, the interior of the cover engraved with two love scenes in a garden, a city in the background, the mother-of-pearl base carved with a hunting scene, marked inside upper rim of box
