Paises baxos, o Belgia, dividida en dos partes [Nuevo atlas o teatro del mundo, volume IV]. Amsterdam: Joan Blaeu, 1663. 2 parts in one volume, 2° (550 x 355mm). Text in Spanish. Letterpress title with woodcut printer's device and two engraved heraldic part-titles with pasted letterpress overslips. Letterpress dedication leaves. 60 double-page engraved maps, including one half-page, and 3 small maps in the text, TITLES AND MAPS ALL FINELY HAND-COLOURED AND HEIGHTENED IN GOLD AND SILVER, mounted on guards throughout. (Some browning affecting several text leaves and some maps, occasional spotting, stain to the upper margins some gatherings just touching the border of one map, small wormhole to title.) Contemporary Dutch vellum panelled in gilt with central lozenge, gilt edges (ties lacking, some small stains, spine partially split).

A FINELY-COLOURED COPY OF THE FOURTH VOLUME OF BLAEU'S RARE ATLAS NUEVO, covering the Southern Netherlands and the United Netherlands. Blaeu's project to publish his Atlas maior in Spanish began in 1659, issuing 10 volumes by 1672. The final volumes were not completed due to the fire at Blaeu's printing house in 1672, which destroyed the building and his plates. Volume IV contains 35 maps from the Theatrum, extended with further maps such as those of the Dutch polders in northern Holland. Koeman/van der Krogt II, 2:641.4

Christie's charges a Buyer's premium calculated at 20.825% of the hammer price for each lot with a value up to €90,000.
