Poetry, Persian manuscript on cream paper, 398ff. with 15ll. of fine black nasta'liq arranged in two gold-outlined columns, titles in gold within panels highlighted with blue floral decoration, opening illuminated bifolium, final folio with colophon signed by the scribe Muhammad ibn Ibrahim ibn Mas'ud with the title of Mun'im al-Awhadi on 20 Safar 894, light staining, in Safavid style gold lacquer binding with decoupé doublures

Lot Essay

This manuscript may be the earliest recorded work by the scribe Mun'im al-Din al-Awhadi. Mehdi Bayani records his earliest work as 897/1491, while a manuscript in Paris is dated 895/1490, (see lot 53). James says he was active from 1486, but does not give a reference.
This mansucript is important because the colophon gives the genealogy of the scribe and his title Mun'im al-Awhadi. It may have been written in the year he was given the title with which he signed all his later known works.
