Lot Essay

Carved hardstone birds in their silver-gilt cages executed by Fabergé are extremely rare on the market or even in private collections. For a chalcedony hornbill in a square silver-gilt cage in Her Majesty, the Queen of England's collection, see: London, Victoria and Albert Museum, Goldsmith to the Imperial Court of Russia, 1977, n. D33
