Lot Essay

The subject of these pictures is rare in sixteenth-century Flemish painting. The pictures were probably meant to be used as overdoors.

Sold with a certificate by Dr. Walther Bernt, dated 1 August 1970, as Maerten van Cleve (1527-1581).
