Blue interlaced L's enclosing date letter I for 1761 and painter's S for Méreaud, aîné, incised 6u
Decorated with frises colorées, the central medallion composed of alternating concentric bands of blue diaper gilt with trellis and dark puce diaper gilt with foliage scrolls, the border a variation on the pattern found on the Rothschild/Choiseul service

Lot Essay

The border pattern found on the present plate is that used by Sèvres on the service it produced in 1766 for a dessert service ordered by Louis-César-Renaud, Vicomte de Choiseul. The rosette in the center is different.
