A MEISSEN CHINOISERIE FOOTED CREAMPOT AND COVER
Circa 1730, blue crossed swords mark, gilder's 4 to each
Of typical squat form with gilt scroll-moulded beak spout and scroll handle, the pot painted with a mounted traveller in a rural landscape passing a peasant woman selling something to two gentlemen resting at the foot of a tree, the other side with Occidental and Oriental merchants in discussion on a quai, a ship being loaded in the background, the wall of a fortress at the right, each reserved within an elaborate gilt, iron-red and purple quatrefoil cartouche, a spray of indianische Blumen beneath the spout; the cover painted with similar harbor scenes within identical cartouches

Lot Essay
The present footed cream-pot and cover would appear to be painted by the same hand as that of the ewer, lot 255.
