maker's mark 'IE', with the mark of the assay master Dmitry Ilyich Tverskoy 1840-1849, St Petersburg 1846, with the town mark of St Petersburg and the Russian standard mark for 14-carat gold, later struck with two unidentified shell marks
Octagonal box, the cover inset with an oval plaque chased in four-colour gold with a vase containing abundant flowers, on a matted gold ground, within a polished gold rim tied with a ribbon, on a panel of matted gold cast with foliate scrolls, the sides and corners similarly cast, the base boldly engraved with latticework, foliate scrolls and flowers
