A REGENCY GOLD, SILVER-GILT AND CITRINE TABLE SEAL
circa 1820
Table seal, the pierced silver-gilt handle shaped as a crown surmounted by a gold globe containing a gold suspension ring, the base inset with a step-faceted large citrine, the matrix engraved with the arms of Armand Emmanuel Duc de Richelieu (1766-1822)

Provenance
Armand Emmanuel Duc de Richelieu, 'gentilhomme de la chambre', had emigrated to Russia at the French Revolution. He became governor of Odessa but returned to France after Napoleon's fall. Under King Louis XVIII, he became Foreign Minister and President of the Council. Due to his good contact with Tsar Alexander I, he succeeded in negotiating acceptable terms for defeated France after Waterloo.
