Octagonal lapis-lazuli box, the panel on the cover with bevelled edges, framed by a narrow gold mount stamped with pellets, ovolos and foliage on a matted ground, the broad upper mount of the sides stamped with trailing foliage on a frosted ground, the lower side rims stamped with stylized acanthus, the interior lined with glass

Lot Essay

Marc Rosenberg (Der Goldschmiede Merkzeichen, Berlin, 1922-1928, vol. IV, no. 7959) mentions an octagonal striated agate snuff-box with gold-mounts by Dudeum, in the collection of the Grand Duke of Baden, of 1805 (sold Sotheby's, Baden-Baden, October 1995, lot 1984), and another oval gold-mounted hardstone snuff-box. A gold-mounted bloodstone box by him was sold Christie's, Geneva, 19 May 1992, lot 2.
