AN OLD BABYLONIAN HAEMATITE CYLINDER SEAL
Circa 1900-1700 B.C.
With two separate two-figure scenes, to the right the sun god Shamash, with a long beard, wearing a horned tiara and a long creased robe from which one leg projects, his foot resting on the back of a human-headed bull, a saw in his right hand, before him a bearded god wearing a brimmed hat and a short fringed robe, holding a mace, a combined lunar crescent and solar disk in the sky, a human head as a filler, to their left a standing priest with a bucket and a sprinkler above a standing worshipper with one arm raised, and to the left a nude hero grappling with a bull-man, both with their heads turned frontal, the hero with much hair, nude but for a triple-stranded belt, the bull-man with a horned tiara and a triple-stranded belt, between them a small worshipper with one hand raised, the terminal a two-line inscription in Babylonian cuneiform naming "Ninshubur, son of An"
