Oxford Shire Actualy Survey'd &c, London: Philip Overton, 1715. Hand-coloured engraved map on 2 sheets, joined, elaborate title cartouche, 5 inset views of "The Prospect of Oxford", "The Theatre", "Blenheim House", "Blenheim Bridge", "The Publick Schools in Oxford" and "The Pavement in Mosaick-Work Discover'd at Stunsfield near Woodstock". (Some very light spotting). Overall dimensions 570 x 890mm.

A rare example of Philip Overton's separately published large map of Oxfordshire, engraved by John Oliver. Philip Overton was the third son of John Overton, from whom in 1707 he was given £200 to set him up in business. In 1711 he received a further gift of £200 from his father. Apart from this map of Oxforshire he produced 2 sheet maps of Essex, Middlesex and Hertfordshire in 1726, Yorkshire in 1728 and Sussex in 1740. Robert Sayer joined Overton as a partner in 1745.
