HENRY OVERTON (fl.1706-64)

Provincia Oxoniensis. Oxford-shire, London: Henry Overton, [c.1716]. Hand-coloured engraved map, title and scale cartouches, depicting "Post Roads" and "Cross Roads". (Lightly browned). 362 x 460mm; together with with Jan Jansson's Oxonium Comitatus Vulgo Oxford Shire ([Amsterdam, 1644 or later]) and Blaeu's Oxonium Comitatus ([Amsterdam, c. 1645]).

Henry Overton acquired the stock of his fathers plates in 1707. His map Provincia Oxoniensis is a close copy of a Jansson 1644 map with the addition of roads. It appeared in some copies of Overton's composite atlas of 1716. (3)
