A pair of George III silver-gilt wine-coolers

Each campana-shaped, on plain circular foot with partly-fluted body chased with a garland border, the two foliage-capped reeded handles with ivy-garlanded Bacchic mask terminals, the upper body cast and chased with a garland of berried laurel on a matted ground, with guilloche rim, the body engraved twice with a coat-of-arms within foliate scroll mantling, marked on side

The arms are those of Farquar with a crescent for difference for Robert Farquar Esq. (1776-1830), 2nd son of Sir Walter Farquar 1st Bt. (1738-1819), Physician to the Prince of Wales. Robert Farquar assumed the additional surname of Townsend in 1824. He served in the Diplomatic Service and was Governor of Penang and Prince Edward Island. He married Maria (d.1875), daughter and heiress of Joseph de Lautour of Hexton House, Hertfordshire, in 1809. He was made a baronet in 1821. (2)
