Lace-like gilding on a monochrome surface, also known as kinrande decoration, was used extensively during the Jiajing period. A smaller bowl with the same gilded decoration but on a green-enamel ground is illustrated in J. Harrison-Hall, Ming Ceramics in the British Museum, London, 2001, p. 245. Also compare a pair of white-glazed bowls with kinrande decoration in op. cit., p. 244, and another pair in the Percival David Foundation illustrated in Scott and Kerr, Evolution in the Middle Ming Period: Hongzhi to Wanli (1488-1620), Singapore, 1994, no. 91
