A LARGE BLUE AND WHITE MOONFLASK, BIANHU
Underglaze-blue Qianlong seal mark and of the period (1736-95)
Of circular shape with spreading rectangular base and cylindrical neck flanked by moulded scrolling handles, each side painted in rich cobalt blue with eight panels enclosing the 'Eight Buddhist Emblems', bajixiang, radiating from a slightly raised boss painted with a stylised flowerhead and divided by key-pattern and lappet bands, all within a key-pattern border, the flat sides painted with a narrow band of leafy scrolls issuing blossoms, the neck and foot painted with a lingzhi scroll and key-pattern around the rim, area of neck and one handle restored
