Selon Nooter et Roberts, " Luba Art and the Making of History ", New York, 1996, les porteuses de coupe sont un élément important du matériel de divination. Le devin place cet objet à côté de lui, il remplit le bol de substances magiques mêlées à de la craie, et il soigne ses patients avec ce médicament.
