FIRST TOUR OF AUSTRALIA, 1861-62 -- A one-page autograph letter in ink on paper, signed "Thomas T. Hamilton, President M.C.C., M. Hammell, Vice President M.C.C., Jimmy Woolley, Hon: Treasr. M.C.C., R.W. Wardill Hon: Secrety. M.C.C.," from Melbourne, 25 March 1862, to "Mr. H.H. Stephenson Captn.; Mr. George Bennett; Mr. William Caffyn; Mr. George Griffiths; Mr. Thomas Hearne; Mr. Roger Iddison; Mr. C. Lawrence; Mr. W. Mortlock; Mr. W. Mudie; Mr. Thoms. Selwell Jnr; Mr. E. Stephenson; Mr. George Wells," expressing the best wishes and thanks of the Melbourne Cricket Club and presenting the side with the gift of 100 sovereigns: "We are requested by the members of the Melbourne Cricket Club to hand you the accompanying purse of one hundred sovereigns and in doing so to express their sense of your uniform manly conduct as Cricketers both in and out of the field during your stay in this colony. With best wishes for your future success and the assurance of a hearty welcome should you visit us again" (slightly faded).
