CARY'S Pocket GLOBE agreeable to the latest DISCOVERIES LONDON Pub. J. & W. Cary Strand April 1791
A fine 3-inch (7.6cm.) diameter terrestrial pocket globe made up of twelve hand-coloured engraved gores, the equatorial, Greenwich meridian and equinoctial colure all graduated in degrees, the ecliptic graduated in days of the houses of the Zodiac with sigils, the oceans with the antipodes to London and the tracks of Cook, Gore, Clerke, Furneaux, Marshall,King, the Resolution and The Lady [?]Pennya with various dates, Antarctica with no land shown, the continents delicately shaded in yellow and green with nation states outlined in green, red and orange and showing mountains in relief, rivers, towns and cities, China with the Great Wall, Russia labelled CALMUC TARTARY and showing Steps or Desert, Japan labelled Niphon, Australia labelled NEW HOLAND and with dotted southern coastline, Tasmania shown as an island and labelled Diemens Land, North America with no northern coastline, Canada showing New South Wales, California labelled NEW ALBION (some minor marks), with two iron axis pins, contained in the original spherical wooden fishskin-covered case, one hemisphere laid with two hand-coloured engraved split T-shaped gores, a cartouche at the centre reading A TABLE OF Latitudes & Longitudes of Places not given on this GLOBE with four tables with sixty towns, their country and continent, and their latitude and longitude, the other hemisphere laid with twelve hand-coloured engraved half-gores entitled The WORLD as known in CAESAR'S Time agreeable to D'Anville and showing Europe, North Africa, the Middle-East and South-East Asia, labelled in Latin, the rims of the case painted orange and with two brass hooks and eyes
