An early 18th-Century silver compass sundial,
signed on the horizontal plate Butterfield AParis, engraved with the hours for latitudes 52°, 49°, 46° and 43°, the inset compass with sixteen compass points, blued-iron needle with brass cap and a glazed cover, the folding gnomon with bird-shaped pointer, and graduated 40°-60°, the underside engraved with latitudes for twenty-eight continental cities and towns, supported on a turned silver foot -- 2 5/8in. (6.5cm.) long
