A Meissen Goldchinesen Kapuzinerbraun-ground globular teapot and cover
Circa 1730, blue Merkurstab mark
Gilt at Augsburg, the teapot with short gilt tapering spout and loop handle, the ground overlaid with broad areas of gilding about the spout, handle and rims to form two oval scalloped Kapuzinerbraun-ground cartouches edged with gilt scrolls and dot ornament, each cartouche gilt with Orientals flanked by trees on terraces supported by Gitterwerk, one side with Orientals seated at a table taking tea and smoking beneath an elaborate canopy, the other with Orientals seated at a table, one with a parasol, the underside with two blue concentric circles, the domed cover gilt with three exotic birds perched on branches about a knop finial within a scalloped gilt band border edged with scrolls and dot ornament (wear to gilding, teapot with restored chip to spout, small slightly extended firing crack to rim with minute associated loss)
