Circa 1745, blue crossed swords mark, the mounts contemporary
Painted with a battle scene, within a shaped cartouche gilt and outlined in black with scrolling foliage, the loop handle with moulded and gilt foliate terminal surrounded by insects and sprays of ombrierte Holzschnitt Blumen, the contemporary silver-gilt domed gadrooned cover with scroll thumbpiece, set with a Saxon coin of Augustus III, with gadrooned silver-gilt foot mount (some minor rubbing to gilt of rim, some light scratching to enamels and gilding)
