The first signed Wheeler, London, circa 1810, the second by Joseph Wilson, Birmingham, dated 1871
The first reconverted from percussion, with three-stage belled brass barrel, spring bayonet beneath released by the sliding trigger-guard, signed brass action engraved with martial trophies, thumbpiece safety-catch, flat-sided walnut butt (replaced, some bruising) and later side-mounted wooden ramrod; the second with blued 8in. (20.3cm.) sighted smooth-bore barrel, case-hardened lock stamped 'Birmingham 1871' and with crowned 'EIG' mark on the tail, walnut stock stamped with 'EIG' mark and maker's name, regulation brass mounts, stirrup ramrod, lanyard ring, and most of its original finish
