A French engraved gilt-brass and porcelain-mounted carriage timepiece, circa 1880
The corniche case engraved with foliate designs against a stipple ground, mounted with pink porcelain side panels decorated with reserves of dancing lovers and with turquoise jewelling (one with crack to corner), the conforming dial with gilt chapter ring for Roman cartouches, the centre painted with cherubs and with retail signature HOWELL JAMES & CO. TO THE QUEEN, with gilt spade hands, the single barrel movement with silvered platform to a lever escapement with bimetallic balance, the back plate stamped B, possibly for Brunelot -- 5 1/8in. (13cm.) high to hilt of handle
