An English mahogany longcase clock
The hood with swan neck cresting with brass ball and spire and eagle finials, outset reeded columns, the trunk with canted and reeded angles flanking a breakarch trunk door with moulded frame, the plinth raised on a wavy skirting, the 12in. brass dial with foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed S.Howes DOWNHAM, matted centre with arch date aperture and subsidiary silvered seconds ring, a ring in the arch inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT and possibly formerly with rocking figure, with false plate to the four pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; composite, case, dial and movement associated, case early 19th century -- 90½in. (230cm.) high
