A German mahogany and satinwood inlaid quarter-chiming longcase clock, first half 20th century
The hood with swan neck cresting and brass ball and spire finials, brass-capped columns and with sound frets to the sides, the satinwood-banded trunk with bevelled oval glass, on plinth with raised panel, the brass dial engraved overall with scrolls on a hatched ground, with silvered Arabic chapter ring and retail plaque inscribed W.H. MAY NOTTINGHAM, matted centre, lacking minute hand, a silvered convex disc in the arch inscribed TEMPUS FUGIT, the triple barrel movement with quarter chimes on four straight gongs and hour strike on gong, the back plate stamped for Junghans -- 82½in. (210cm.) high
