An English oak and mahogany cross-banded longcase clock
The hood with line inlays and stepped top, outset part-fluted columns, the cross-banded trunk door flanked by fluted three-quarer columns, the plinth with raised panel and on bracket feet, the 11¼in. square brass dial with female mask and foliate spandrels to a silvered Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed Wm. Gibb Maidston, with fleur-de-lys half hour and lozenge half quarter hour markers, matted centre with subsidiary silvered seconds ring, its centre engraved with a star, ringed winding holes, the date aperture below framed by engraved leaves and a basket of fruit, later hands, the five ringed pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell; associated, movement and dial circa 1715, case late 18th century -- 78in.
