A George III mahogany, cross-banded and satinwood inlaid longcase clock, circa 1785
The pagoda hood with brass ball and spire finials and recessed panel, fluted pilasters, the door cross-banded in satinwood and flanked by brass-capped fluted outset columns, with (formerly glazed) side panels, the trunk door with stepped arch top, with moulded frame and cross-banding, the trunk above inlaid with bats' wing paterae and chevron bands, flanked by fluted three-quarter columns on cross-banded blocks, the plinth with conforming inlays and with a raised panel with moulded frame and concave-cut corners, on stepped base, the 12in. silvered and engraved Roman and Arabic dial with subsidiary date and seconds ring to the centre, signed John Grant London No.142, later hour and minute hands, with strike/silent ring in the arch, the five pillar movement with anchor escapement and rack strike on bell -- 96½in. (245cm.) high
