DISCARDED SCRIPT PAGES
1939
Three script pages all listing scenes that were later deleted from the finished version of the film. The first one is 'Page 10' and has a pencilled notation reading Discarded Jan 27-39 next to the scene starting Faint sound of horse and carriage approaching from outside. The setter pricks up his ears, bounds to his feet, and starts barking excitedly and leaping at the front door. Camera pulls back as Mammy, a vast, aging negress, lumbers into scene, calling orders back over her shoulder as she goes toward the setter; the second one is 'Page 12' and also has a pencilled notation reading Discarded March 3-39 next to a dialogue scene of Mammy (to boy) Git up, boy! Doan you hear Miss Ellen comin'? Go out an' git her medicine-chist!; the third one is 'Page 42' and has a pencilled notation reading Out Jan 28-39 next to a whole page of deleted dialogue between Melanie, Mrs. Elsing, Mrs. Merriwether and Dr. Meade during the Bazaar.
