Each with waved toprail above a pierced open vertical vase-shaped splat, above a padded drop-in seat covered in fuchsia leather, on square legs joined by stretchers, with pierced angle brackets, five chairs with later blocks, two chairs with variations (6)

Lot Essay

These chairs have typically Irish serpentined toprails with scrolled ends, and their vase-shaped pierced splats are hung with a tassel such as those offered anonymously, in these Rooms, 30 November 2000, lot 93. A related pair of Irish chairs is illustrated in P. Broome, The Hyde Park Collection, Hong Kong, 1989, p. 111.
