Lot Essay

The table is designed in the early 19th century Grecian manner with 'poetic' trestles comprised of 'Apollo' lyres on scrolled 'claws'. Its patriotic 'native wood' veneer of fine marble-figured oak was also popularised at this period by cabinet-makers such as George Bullock of Liverpool and London, and lauded in Rudolph Ackermann's, Repository of Arts of 1816.
