Edo period (17th century), with signature Hizen ju Tadayoshi
The configuration shinogi-zukuri (longitudinal ridge line), iori-mune (shallow peaked back) and chu-kissaki (medium point) with a pronounced torii-zori curvature; the forging pattern mokume (wood burl) and the tempered edge notare (pointed undulations); the tip hakikake (flame-brushed tip); the tang unshortened, asymmetrical-rounded with one peg hole, the file marks katte sagari

Koshirae comprising a saya (scabbard) lacquered with tiny fragments of abalone shell and fitted with a kozuka carved with the legendary figures Kosekiko and Choryo; the tsuka (handle) rayskin mounted with menuki cast as birds and finished in shakudo and gold, and fuchi-kashira cast as South Sea Islanders and samurai in shakudo, shibuichi and gold, with signature Yoshimasa, the kurikata (cord holder) carved with a floating chrysanthemum; iron eight-lobed plate pierced with fans; koshirae 29½in.
