An English figured walnut longcase clock
Late 17th Century
The case on bracket feet with rectangular base and rectangular trunk door with a glazed circular lenticle with later oval gilt-metal mount depicting Father Time, the hood with turned pilasters, surmounted by the later stepped top with the square brass dial with brass Roman and Arabic chapter ring signed Robert Trippett/London, the matted and engraved centre with brass seconds ring, date aperture and alarm-disc, with pierced floral spandrels depicting winged putti holding a crown in their hands, the four-pillar movement with anchor escapement and strike on one bell, with counterwheel between the plates, with a paperlabel to the interior inscribed in ink 10818/23.2.09/BZ, restorations to the case, the giltwood circular plaque to the trunkdoor now replaced by a Dutch oval mount, minor losses to the veneers, the caddy-top later
