Later printing, SIGNED "Samuel Beckett" on the half-title. Cluchey has signed, dated and elaborately annotated this copy: "Rick Cluchey, 1st prompt book, San Francisco, 1971." With Cluchey's notes throughout, including this enigmatic one on the title page: "'Violent,' for Beckett, isn't loud. Its quiet and intense. Tremendously distancing and scary."
Cluchey first became acquainted with Samuel Beckett's work through the drama club at the San Quentin prison, where Cluchey had been sentenced to life without consideration of parole. Cluchey's life was the basis of Nick Nolte's film Weeds.
